THE INAUGURAL show of the Irish Association of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, took place at Kedrah Castle in Co Tipperary, where Martin O’Sullivan’s Glandore Earl of Beauty was the first champion crowned on the day, taking the youngstock title.

Ann Grimes claimed the broodmare championship with Lambay For Fun and she also landed the foal championship with Lambay Le Roi.

The Mountain and Moorland classes were strongly supported, with Mary Moore crowning Nantdywyll Triban champion after polished performance from rider Emily Marnane.

Lorna Twomey’s Uppacott Exotica got the nod for champion mini pony with daughter Meg Twomey and this partnership will be one to watch at the Dublin Horse Show in the newly formatted show hunter lead rein class.

Seamore Flashdance had a successful day for the Hatton family and took both the show pony and intermediate championship.

Clonakilty Anchorman took the final championship under Alix Cuneen.

The black and amber championship, judged by Margaret Miller and sponsored by Tattersalls, saw Erwfair Nora take the section A championship, while Rhoson Annwyl Eto was crowned section B champion.

Abercippyn Melfed Ddu took the C and D championship and Ann Grimes Lambay for Fun continued her successful day winning the part-bred championship.

Brynoffa Jonquil went beautifully in both class and championship and was the worthy winner of the mini championship, with Garth Bailie’s Forestgate Lucky Lewis taking the ridden championship.

Margaret Miller found her supreme champion in the delightful grey three-year-old filly Rhoson Annwyl Eto which was also crowned led champion. Her reserve was Susan Drum’s Abercippin Melfed Ddu.

The final classes of the day were judged by Isobel Reynolds and sponsored by Gain Feeds, with

Ann Grimes scoring a hat-trick with Lambay for Fun, taking the show pony broodmare championship while Aidan Williamson completed a successful day taking the champion youngstock title with Cadlan Valley Crusader.
