The opening class saw Amy Curran, from Moycullen, take the top spot with her consistent yearling filly Glencarrig Countess (Glencarrig Knight x Glencarrig Princess) while the two-year-old colt winner came in the form of Gentle Mac. The colt, who carries on the famous Gentle bloodlines which have been precious to Connemara breeders for many years, is owned by Caillin Conneely and was bred by John McLoughlin.

John Hynes was awarded the red rosette in the two-year-old filly class with his well coupled grey Addrigoole Serena (Castleside Carrick x Fernville April). The Claremorris-based owner, who purchased the filly as a foal from her breeder Kevin Nally, was happy with the win.

In the three-year-old filly class Patrick Curran’s Wyncroft Dawn (Laerkens Cascade Dawn x Bailenabrough Beauty) emerged victorious, taking the red from Patrick McGrath’s Smokey Queen.

In a combined two and three-year-old colt class Claire Lacy and Danny Flynn’s Hazelrock Cruise (Lucky Rebel x Smokey Jimmy) headed the line-up from Pat O’Neill’s Illaunurra Bay (Castleside J J Junior x Illaunurra Heather). The grey was later awarded the junior championship while the reserve sash went to Wyncroft Dawn.

The young handler featured equally smart handlers and their ponies. Jack Keaney from Murvey and his Sweet Hannah took the win from Cillian Dunne with Fair Lady.

The foal classes had a strong entry and Marty Keaney’s Murvey Dexter (Dexter Leam Pondi x Murvey Rita) headed the initial line-up in the colts class but in the final summation Damien Gorham’s Doonhill Dancer (Currachmore Cashel x April Dawn Lady) moved up the line to take the red. The foal champion was found in the Caillin Conneely-owned filly Letterdyfe Lily Marie (Glencarrig Knight x Glencarrig Rose Marie). The impressive filly was expertly exhibited in tribute to the late Michael Conneely, who sadly passed away some months ago.

The two stallion classes produced the eventual supreme champion and reserve of the show. The supreme champion title went to the Joe Burke-owned six-year-old Banks Timber (Telgstrup Duke x Banks Square Do Do), who was bred by Jetta Banks in Denmark while the reserve champion sash went to Seamus Keady’s seven-year-old Too Much Melody (Cocum Thunder Boy x Equinoxe Melody). Geoffrey Heanue’s mare Derrylough April (Castlestrange Fionn-Starlight Butterfly) deservedly winning the four to six-year-old class while in the seven to 12-year-old class, Carrowkeel Star (Currachmore Cashel x Lishin Star), owned by Thomas and Fiona Grimes, headed the line-up. In the 13-year-old and over class the Antaine O’Cuinn-owned Marge Rowley (Rosenaharley Rowley x Tolka Bridge) was judged first with Dara Heanue’s 25-year-old Belcara Mist awarded the blue while Johnny Conneely’s D’arcy Eileen’s Janice (Janus x Eileen’s Pet) won the last class of the day.
