THE final leg of the North Eastern Region’s autumn dressage league, which was sponsored by White’s Agri and run over four rounds at Jordanstown, was hosted by the Killeek Club last Saturday when three of the league winners also won their Breda Bernie-judged classes.
They were the Advanced Primary competitor Mary Hagan, chairman of the Fingal club, with her 12-year-old bay mare Sweetwell, Copperfield’s Advanced Intermediate representative Karen Gibney, riding the 14-year-old Golden River gelding Coppermine George, and Ashbrook’s Michael Moore, winner at Advanced Open level with the 15-year-old grey mare Guaranteed Gold.
The other league winners were Killossery’s Pauline Creagh with the 14-year-old Merry Mate mare Helena Misty Eve (Primary) and Ashbrook’s Dearbhaile Fitzsimons who claimed the Intermediate title on Ballydavid Sam. That 22-year-old bay gelding also carried Anne O’Dowd to league honours for the same club at Open level.
Bernie’s remaining class winners on Saturday were Copperfield’s Aileen Murray and her 10-year-old gelding Ennel Bound For Glory (Open) and Cheval’s Sarah Cashin who topped the Primary marks with Seskinskoll Billy, a six-year-old skewbald gelding. Milestone Lodge’s Ciara Wynne (My Lady Arabella) and Julie Griffith of Drynam (Blueberry Hill) shared the honours at Intermediate level.
As well as graded classes, the league organisers ran three Sportsmans classes throughout the league with ‘C’ competitors riding the Dressage Ireland Intro B (walk/trot) test. While unplaced on Saturday, the Killeek Club was delighted that their members, Aileen Roche and Sonya Nicholson, enjoyed taking part in each leg of the series, their first time to ride dressage competitively.
