Blessed with one of the country’s most scenic locations, its proximity to the nearby Blue Flag-rated Carramore beach, drew curious holidaymakers.

Judges Rosemary Connors and Siobhan Madden had some quality traditional-bred combinations to select from in the new feature breeding championship. After much consideration the judges placed Tom Newell’s home-bred Kilcahill Diamond, by Colin Diamond, and her Financial Reward colt at the top of their line-up.

The reserve spot went to P.J. Glynns’ Grove Star who was bred locally by the McLoughlin family and by the late Grosvenor Lad who once stood nearby with P.J. O’Reilly. This former Limerick Lady champion was shown with a smart Near Dock colt and both she, and the third-placed Martin Murphy’s Black Beauty, has qualified for The Irish Field Breeders Championship in Dublin.

Murphy’s eight-year-old Loughehoe Guy mare also has a Near Dock colt foal at foot and her good day continued when she landed the sport horse championship.

Eddie Murphy’s Scarlett Lady, another Grosvenor Lad daughter, swept through the Irish Draught section and proved the ultimate champion choice while John Gilmartin’s Tyrellspass Valentino secured the champion pony title. Sean Conneely’s Glenellen’s Fancy, by Blue Smokie, was Miceál Higgins and Audrey Donoghue’s champion Connemara choice.
