Margaret Millar took charge of the ridden ponies and she awarded her first championship to Stephen Gibbons on his show hunter lead rein pony Yrenfys LLwnog who was led up by his mother Jane. Taking reserve was a delighted Shauna Doyle on her little grey pony Misty Bess.

Megan Devanney recorded the first of several wins throughout the day on her mother’s unusually coloured chocolate dun Its Millar Time in the intermediate hunter class before taking the intermediate championship while the intermediate riding type winners, Lucinda Mills and Brookvale All Talk, stood in reserve.

The show hunter championship went to Marian Judges’ consistent skewbald mare Waterglades Gemini with Courtney Deasley taking the reins for the championship as regular rider Megan Devanney had also qualified Emma Kelly’s Aragan High Flyer from the novice class. Mills and Brookvale All Talk stood reserve having come through from a very strong 153cms show hunter class.

The trend of diminishing entries in the show pony classes, seen at a variety of recent events, was not evident and it was lovely to see well-filled rings. Previous Dublin and Balmoral winner Brookvale Court Jester headed the 148cms section above his stable mate Araglas by Royal Appointment. Melanie Marnane’s Sharlen Gone With The Wind, who is having a fantastic season, recorded yet another win in the 138cms class ahead of Theresa Marnanes’ Wyndham Limelight while Aimee Dugan was victorious in the 128cms class with Hollybush Juno.

Champion and reserve in the show ponies went to the Tipperary-based cousins, Amber and Olivia Marnane, who had occupied the top placings in the 138 section with their quality ponies Sharlen Gone With The Wind and the Irish-bred Wyndham Limelight.

Rosaleen Barry presided over the pony youngstock classes and the Welsh in-hand pony classes. Justin Gilmartin’s three-year-old gelding, Tyrellspass Valentino, followed up on his recent youngstock championship win at Athlone by adding yet another victory to his CV. The overall in-hand championship went to the Gillian Torrens part-bred Brookvale Court Jester.

In the supreme ridden championship, for the Lynne Aldridge Memorial Trophy, Amber Marnane and her chesnut pony Sharlen Gone With The Wind added another supreme championship title to her tally this season with Jane Gibbons’ lead rein Yrenfys Llwyngog in reserve.
