MEMBERS of the AIRC West Leinster region recently came together to celebrate the winners of their spring leagues in two disciplines.

The Linda Moore Show jumping league and the Kavanaghs of Newbridge Dressage League each consisted of five legs of competition, hosted by different riding clubs from March to May.

The West Leinster region committee organised the prizegiving ceremony, which was attended by Marguerite McSweeney, representing sponsor Kavanaghs of Newbridge, and Linda Moore league supporter John Moore.

The Kavanaghs of Newbridge dressage league was hosted by Calliaghstown, Dunbyrne, Killcarrick, Winterdown and Cill Dara riding clubs.

The primary league was won by Mary Leavy from Moyglare, who, riding Bozzie, finished the season well ahead of the competition on 81 points. Niamh Corbett and Knock On Jake from Calliaghstown took second place with 67 points.

Ceara Banner won the advanced primary league with Soprano, for Abbeylands RC, on 70 points, ahead of Sandra Boyle and King Galloway in second on 55 points.

The intermediate and advanced intermediate winners were both from Greenhills. Fionnuala O’Connor took first place in the intermediate with Mighty Clever on 84 points, ahead of Sinead Ellis and Westcoast Cougar from Killcarrick with 60. Lianne O’Shea and Bento Van De Noorheuvel won the advanced intermediate on 82 points ahead of Marian Murphy and Roxy from Calliaghstown with 62.

In the open league, Clare Maher and her coloured mare Miss Chief earned a win for Killcarrick with 81 league points. Deirdre Kane took second place for Greenhills with Mighty Clever on 65.

Killcarrick member Karyn Jamieson represented her club at the advanced open level, competing with three horses, Empress Calisto, Little Rumour and Midnight, who finished first, second and third respectively.

LINDA MOORE LEAGUE

The Linda Moore show jumping league was hosted by Ballyteague, Kilcarrick, Calliaghstown, Cill Dara and Winterdown riding clubs.

Orla Doyle and Bobby won the primary league for Rathfarnham RC, earning 41 league points, while Sharon Conroy and Bright Spark from Winterdown took second place with 35.

Results were close in the advanced primary league, with just four points separating the top three riders. Finishing on top with 39 points were Susan O’Donnell and Jack from Cill Dara, with Mary O’Driscoll and Megan from Abbeylands placed second on 36.

The intermediate league was hotly contested and Ann Benson from Abbeylands emerged triumphant with Millie on 41 points, ahead of Marie Dunne and Bella from Moyglare (38).

Eamonn Moore and his horse Big Ger from Abbeylands won the advanced intermediate league by a wide margin finishing the league with 57 points. His nearest competitor and fellow club member Julie Benson took second place with Naoise B with 34.

The open league was won by Jurgita Zelvyter and Loughanure Chippy from Abbeylands with 49 points, ahead of Emer Hegarty and the Dambuster from Cill Dara with 37.
