LIAM Maloney was the sole judge at a recent show staged by the Midland & Western Region of Dressage Ireland at Ower Equestrian.

There were doubles on the day for both Killian Gaffney and Caitriona Curran. The latter comfortably won the two-runner Advanced Medium BD85 with her Hanoverian mare Dancing Espri (67.17%) and was then awarded a score of 65.29 when she and the nine-year-old grey by Denario were the only competitors in the Advanced Medium BD96.

Second (61.83%) to Curran at Advanced Medium level, Siobhan Cazabon saw off two rivals when winning the Medium BD61 on the Irish Sport Horse gelding CB Let It Be (65), a 14-year-old chesnut son of Ramiro B.

On his Dressage Ireland debut, Gaffney won both Elementary classes with the 11-year-old black AB 19 Chepetto gelding Coretto who he competes under Eventing Ireland and Show Jumping Ireland rules. The pair scored 69.26% in the DI51 and 68.71 in the BD40.

At Novice level, Lizzy Naughton comfortably landed the DI26 with her ISH gelding Andyanderson (68.28%), a 12-year-old bay by Bahrain Cruise, while Hannah Gordon recorded a narrow success in the BD22 with Liam Lynskey’s Irish Draught stallion DS Ballagh Bouncer (67.24). This nine-year-old grey by Moylough Bouncer has an excellent record in performance Draught classes and started this season jumping double clears at SJI 1.10m level.

Not too surprisingly, the best-filled classes were at Preliminary level. In the DI5, Connie Noone and the home-bred ISH mare Kilcorban Bella Rose (69.31%), a chesnut daughter of Leitrim Aldatus K, saw off three rivals, headed by Georgina Spain riding the thoroughbred Rantum Scoot (64.14).

In the BD19, it was Spain who came out on top with Rantum Scoot (67.29%), an unraced 13-year-old gelding by Chineur, while Noone had to settle for third on Kilcorban Bella Rose (64.79). The pair were split by Shirley Mullins and the ID mare Gortfree Rebel (66.67).
