THE South East Region won the senior team championship at Cavan Equestrian Centre last weekend with representatives recording a plethora of wins at Dressage Ireland’s three-day national championships.
At Elementary level, the two titles were claimed for the SER by Gabrielle Le Guay and Hannah Fielding, the former winning Category 2 with the British-bred Hartpury Sky Is The Limit who, in his previous career, evented to up international three-star level.
As well as competing with DI this season, the 11-year-old gelding, who won both of his classes at Cavan, had a lot of success on the showing circuit with Le Guay finishing second in the large riding horse class at Dublin.
Fielding claimed the Elementary, Category 3 title on her German-bred mare Florentina DWS, a six-year-old daughter of Fidertanz who finished second (72.679) on Friday to the Courtney Stuart-ridden HH Empire (73.393) but won (73.710) on Saturday ahead of that similarly-aged Bretton Woods stallion (72.903). Courtney and HH Empire won the Medium freestyle champion.
Mentioned elsewhere on this page as being the 2018 national para champion, Rosemary Gaffney won the Category 3 championships at both Preliminary and Novice level with Werona, a nine-year-old Danish-bred mare by Painted Black.
In Friday’s Preliminary class, they finished second (72.414%) to fellow SER representatives Anne Marie Dunphy and LEB Hugo (73.190), a five-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding by Woodlander Rockstar, but, on a score of 72.593, won their Novice class ahead of Victoria Campbell on Iotta Van Bergsham (68.981).
On Saturday, Gaffney and Werona topped the scores on 74.423% in their Preliminary class with Elaine Potter finishing second on CLH Big Red (74.231) while, in their second Novice class on Sunday, they once again took the honours on 70.250 ahead of Campbell who scored 69%.
Dunphy, national champion both last year and 12 months previously, concluded the three-day show with victory in the Grand Prix Kür with her Dutch Warmblood gelding Urbanus, a 17-year-old gelding by Ronaldo.
