CATHAL Daniels departed for the junior European eventing championships in England on the back of two wins at the RDS, the first of which came in The Curragh Racecourse small event horse class with John Craig’s Kilrodan Sailorette.

The six-year-old Boherdeal Clover mare, who completed on a score of 89.70, was homebred near Nenagh out of Kilrodan Boathouse (by Cruising). She and Daniels finished third on their only start in a CNCJ1 at Ballindenisk last month following some good placed efforts in Junior C company. They qualified for Dublin at Dollanstown.

Craig and Daniels won the same class last year with Kilrodan Queen B who is also a daughter of Boherdeal Clover. The Co Galway rider completed his 2014 Dublin double in the Pony Club Members’ combined training class on Margaret Hynes’s stallion Barnaboy Freeman.

Padraig Flanagan finished second (87.20) in the small event horse class with his father Pat’s five-year-old Lu Ca with whom he qualified for the RDS at Ravensdale Lodge. The bay gelding, who was bred by Vida Tansey, is by Lux Z out a Cavalier Royale mare.

Flanagan, who is also from Co Galway, only started eventing this year having come to the sport from the Connemara showing world where he enjoyed a lot of success.
