Held at Boswell Equestrian, some new combinations on the circuit gained momentum, including Mullybrannon Diamond, owned by Maire Springate and ridden by her daughter Sadhbh, who took the 158cms novice working hunter.

Two other very experienced ponies with new jockeys this season also recorded a great start to the season. One was 143cms open working hunter, Another Mercury, owned by Polly Lacey and ridden by daughter Chloe, while the other was Jane Hancock’s 133cms Burghley Gold Cup winner, Dun For Now, ridden this season by Sadhbh Stassin.

In the ridden classes, the winners included seasoned combinations such as the versatile Dublin Connemara winner, Claremont Lad, owned by Gill Glynn and ridden by Lucy Glynn.

The pair won the under-16 ridden and working hunter sections and has been out hunting during the winter.

Niall and Aoife O’Connor’s daughter Sadhbh also took a win on her new 143cms show hunter, Valintine Dignity and new member Emma Jane Leggit and Etna O’Grady’s seasoned Golden Orphan won the 153cms open show hunter and working hunter classes.

Twenty four rugs were provided by Horseware Ireland for the lucky winner of each class over the four-week league. League organiser and chairman of the Wicklow IPS Area, Peter Molloy, said there had been some very strong new combinations in the league who came out to get early mileage that no doubt will stand to them all season.
