THERE was lots of great results for the Irish Pony Society members at Burghley, following Tracy Walshe’s win for Ireland in the young event horse class.

Arena 2 was re-set by the BSPS last Sunday for their prestigious Gold Cup competition where 13 ponies qualified to compete in each of three height categories - 12 at British championship shows and one from a Scottish qualifier. The Hancock family from Co Carlow had secured two qualification tickets at the BSPS summer championships in Grantham.

Last Sunday morning, Tiggy Hancock, riding Tim Price’s coloured mare, came fourth in the 133 height section going clear in both the working hunter and show jumping section.

More was to come when later that day, her sister Lucy won the 153 section with a pole in hand going into the show jumping on her eight-year-old grey gelding Coppenagh Spring Sparrow, bred by John Aylward in Gowran out of Peadar Murphy’s Connemara stallion Springfield Sparrow. Lucy posted the only double clear in her section and then went on to win the championship and the Gold Cup for Ireland.

Congratulations to Lucy, Tiggy and their mum Jane, it was well worth the trip!
