ANOTHER in-form yard is that of Galway’s Grace Maxwell-Murphy and her husband William McMahon who paid their first visit to the Tattersalls July Show last weekend.

William had to settle for second place in a strong middleweight class on Sunday morning with the Irish Draught gelding Cappa Ranger but Grace later partnered the Cappa Cassanova eight-year-old to victory in the Mahony family ladies’ side saddle class.

Disappointingly for the riders, the rain and wind arrived just as they were about to enter the ring and not all horses settled in the conditions.

The winner, who was bred by Jimmy Quinn out of the Dunkerrin Grey Mist mare Cappa Mist, wasn’t at all fazed by the inclement weather and Maxwell-Murphy was delighted to be presented with the Fania Mahony Trophy and to qualify for next year’s Royal International Horse Show with the grey.

Last year’s winning combination of Antonia de Burgh and her 10-year-old Cobra gelding, Gypsy Cobra Cruis, the reigning Dublin champions, had to settle for second on this occasion.
