WITH the market for sport horses on an upward trend and with two lively renewals already done and dusted, the team at Cavan will be hoping for another strong trade next Wednesday.
Certainly, the catalogue of around 150 lots appears stout enough and most notably in the pony and ridden horse sectors. Having made the headlines in April, the former division offers a number of seasoned performers, including the leading grade A 138cm jumping pony Annaveigh Aaron, as well as the very experienced 128cm performer TLC Droumleap Dust in the Wind. These and many others are among a sizeable collection with competition form, while also standing out are some attractively-bred Irish Draughts, Connemaras and traditionally-bred all-rounders.
Looking through the list of covering sires, Sligo Candy Boy leads the way by a distance. As the only stallion with more than three progeny forward, Padraig Howley’s enduringly popular resident is extremely well-represented by 11 lots, spanning every age group.

Featuring as a premier pony, he is eligible for the six/seven-year-old classes at the RDS this year and, carrying a very smart SJI record, could be a serious candidate. Easy to do in all ways, he has also enjoyed a few days hunting with Tipperary Foxhounds last season.
Lot 14, CC Clover, reg 4 yo br m 148cm by Corlough Clover out of
Knockbrack Diamond Lady (Cavalier Cruise). A home-bred, SJI-registered youngster with potential, CC Clover is a well-related pony hailing from sport horse bloodlines. A multiple winner in the under 10 classes, as well as over the top tracks, she is only for sale as her rider is out of the age group. She is fit and ready to compete with her next jockey.
