THE cost of registering thoroughbred horses for show jumping has been reduced following a new initiative announced by Treo Eile, which will see the organisation partner with Showjumping Ireland to covering their SJI memberships. Initially, it was planned to cover the €100 Sports Membership Package only, which would have covered thoroughbred horses and their owner/rider (over 18 years) competing up to 1m only.
Then, Treo Eile announced they would extend this agreement with Showjumping Ireland to include the registration of thoroughbred horses at any level that will compete with ShowJumping Ireland this year. To be eligible, the horse must be registered with Treo Eile and have a Weatherbys or equivalent passport. Owners need to complete the registration process and prior to payment, contact the SJI office for validation and verification.
Speaking after the announcement Ronan Corrigan, SJI’s chairman of the finance committee, said: “Showjumping Ireland was delighted to work with Treo Eile to bring in this initiative. There are some very nice thoroughbred horses competing in the leisure and sportsman’s arena and its great to be able to offer them free membership. We would like to be able to facilitate these horses getting a second chance and it will further help give these horses a new career after the racecourse.”
Andrea Ryan, CEO of Treo Eile added: “We initially offered free Sportsman membership, but we received a few calls from other riders who are competing in other ranks, so we decided to extend the offer. We have had a very positive reaction and, I believe, a good take up on the offer since it was announced. We offered a similar package in Eventing Ireland, and it rolled out from there. As with SJI, we found Eventing Ireland so helpful and accommodating. We hope this will mean that we will see more thoroughbreds out there competing in all disciplines.”
Treo Eile supports thoroughbreds competing across a wide variety of disciplines - from eventing and show jumping to leisure riding.
Last year, amateur show jumping rider Aisling Donohue and her horse by Oscar, Silent Picture claimed the Treo Eile Thoroughbred Points Award. A familiar name on the SJI amateur circuit. Aisling’s impressive season included victories in the Thoroughbred prize at the Summer Series Final, the National Amateur Championships, the Connaught Amateur Classic, Duffy’s Equestrian League 2025, and was second in the individual class at the Treo Eile Christmas Show 2024. Silent Picture also won an Under-18 win with Anna Tarpey at the show in 2023.
