Meade is the first female president
AT the AGM of the All Ireland Polo Club last week, Derville Meade was elected as the first female president of the organization, which was established in 1873. Based in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, the All Ireland Polo Club is regarded as the oldest in Europe, and hosts practice chukkas every Thursday which are open to spectators. The club also holds charity events and tournaments throughout the summer. Kilworth and Araglen Annual Dog Show
KILWORTH and Araglen Harriers are preparing for their annual dog show and family fun day, which will be held in Araglen on May 31st. Proceedings will begin with a cooked breakfast in Araglen Community Hall, before action will move to the Community Field, where all the main events will take place. There will be a variety of stalls, a kiddie’s corner, vintage displays and a pet show, as well as a long puck competition. Five Nations qualifying tickets will be up for grabs in the championships of the whippet, lurcher and terrier classes, while a prize of €100 is on offer to the Overall Champion of the show.
Ireland on top in youth rankings
IRISH para dressage rider Clodagh Walsh has retained her spot at the top of the FEI’s world para dressage U18 rankings, after she took three podium placings in Aachen last month riding Chantal. Tom Wachman has also maintained his fourth position in the U25 show jumping rankings, and Godfrey Gibbons lies eighth in that age group on the equivalent eventing list. There are two Irish athletes in the top ten of the U21 eventing rankings, namely Ben Connors in sixth and Momo Sheehy in ninth, while Carla Williamson has moved up from 13th to sixth amongst the U18 riders.
