PONY Tales knew we recognised Eoin Glynn when he was announced as the new President of Veterinary Ireland at the Association’s AGM and annual conference in Kilkenny last week.
The Co Galway vet was a regular on the show jumping circuit in his young rider days, competing (and winning) at the RDS among other events. On congratulating him on his new role this week, he told us that he is still breeding sport horses at home and producing horses when he gets a chance but, as you can imagine, he is kept busy.
Glynn studied horsemanship at Kildalton College before qualifying as a vet at UCD and founding Gorteen Acre Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal veterinary clinic which operates in Athenry and Tuam and provides a range of equine services. His leadership style is shaped by first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by riders, trainers, vets and horse owners; from welfare to performance, medication use, and the complexities of modern equine care.
Speaking at his inauguration, Glynn highlighted his commitment to a profession where every member feels supported, valued and empowered to lead in animal health, welfare and ethical practice. His appointment marks the 25th anniversary of Veterinary Ireland, a moment he described as “an opportunity to embrace change while protecting what matters most: integrity, welfare and science-led decision making.”
