FORMER Grand Prix show jumping rider John Mulvey (pictured) sadly passed away on Tuesday, December 2nd after a long illness, in the kind care of the staff at Wicklow Hospice. Many friends from the show jumping community in Ireland and abroad gathered to celebrate John’s life on Friday at McCrea’s Cremation Chapel in Wicklow Town.
John ran John Mulvey Equestrian, which incorporated breeding, sales, livery and a training centre in Kilternan, Co Dublin. As well as breeding show jumpers and eventers, he was also a trainer and show jumper and produced many horses including Nicola Wilson’s One Two Many NJ, and competed nationally on horses such as Mr Melody, Igo Two and Ballycullen Hill.
One of his proudest achievements was breeding the five-star event horse Brookfield Inocent who won team gold and individual silver at the 2021 FEI Eventing European championships under Piggy March. John will be lovingly missed by his wife Anne, daughters Ella and Amy, sisters Helena and Janet, extended family, and many friends.
