THERE was success for Irish raiders at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships, held at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in the UK last week, when Claire Farrell won two championships with Renneti.
The combination first topped the leaderboard in the Elementary Open on a score of 68.94%, before adding the win in the Medium Restricted on 66.11%. There were 12 competitors in each class. Farrell and Renneti also finished second in the Veteran’s championship on Thursday evening, having earned a mark of 65.17%.
Renneti won eight times during his racing career under the care of Willie Mullins, earning £233,446 in prize money before being retrained by Farrell. The combination are active and successful members of Dressage Ireland.
They made their medium level debut earlier this year, as well as winning Treo Eile bonuses at both the Botanica Leinster Festival in CoilOg and the Nutriscience SER Classic at Barnadown.
“All I can say is he’s the horse of a lifetime,” said Farrell from Aintree.
“The journey has been unbelievable and I’m so lucky to pilot him. He really is a legend.”
Farrell was joined in Aintree by her compatriot Louise Duffy, who placed fifth in Wednesday’s Novice Open championship riding the 21-year-old Arvika Ligeonniere.
Also trained by Mullins, the gelding won 10 times on the track, including four Grade 1s, before being retrained by Duffy, first to compete with Eventing Ireland up to CCI2*-L level.
At these championships, the combination scored 68.55% in a class which was won by Helen Jackson riding Adam’s Park, a former charge of Mick Appleby, on 70.81%.
Treo Eile CEO Andrea Ryan was impressed by the success of the Irish riders in Aintree.
“It’s just wonderful to see Claire and Louise representing themselves, their horses and Treo Eile so well at the RoR Championships.
“We’re delighted for them, and we would also like to acknowledge the training and background support, which has contributed to their success. They’re fantastic ambassadors for thoroughbreds in second careers.”
