DENIS Flannelly has selected his squad for the upcoming FEI Jumping European Championships for ponies in Le Mans, France, which begins on July 28th.

Ireland’s pony teams have been enjoying spectacular success in recent years, having won European gold in 2022 and 2023, as well as coming home with a bronze medal last year.

The Irish squad selected for the FEI Jumping European Championships for Ponies, in alphabetical order, is: Charlie Flynn with HK Zena, owned by Susan Keane; Ruben Foley with Wineport Q Junior, owned by Michael O’Sullivan; Cian McMunn with Esperando SK, owned by Breda McMunn; Lily Tunney with Fireman, owned by Gabriel Tunney; Sam Widger with Western Ranger, owned by Joe McMahon. Non-travelling reserve is Kristin O’Sulllivan with Alonsa, owned by Caroline O’Sullivan

Flannelly said: “I’m really looking forward to the championship with this fantastic squad of athletes and their wonderful ponies.

“We’ve had a wonderful season in preparation for this championship in Le Mans, competing around Europe in the Nations Cup series, and I hope we can perform to the best of our ability and bring home a medal.”
