Star of the Month winner

CONGRATULATIONS to young pony rider Nancy Lyons Teehan, who was voted The Irish Field/Gain Equine Nutrition Star of the Month for May. She was nominated after winning four qualifiers for the Horse of the Year Show at the Northern Ireland Festival in Cavan.

Plenty on offer at Dungarvan Show

DUNGARVAN Show will take place on Sunday, July 13th with a multitude of classes. There is a €1,000 prize fund for the Liberty Blue Estate Agents Champion and Reserve Ridden Hunter; a €2,000 prize fund under the Breeding Grant Initiative for two broodmare classes; the Inaugural Native Breeds Championship; Novice and Open Racehorse to Riding classes; ISA qualifiers for yearlings, two-year-olds and foals. This year will see new and improved working hunter fences, plus IPS qualifiers and points for the Side Saddle Ireland League. With three show jumping arenas, all standards are catered for. IDHBA Laois Branch annual show

THE annual IDHBA Laois Branch show takes place on Sunday, July 6th at Stradbally. Classes will include in-hand showing for Irish Draught mares, foals and youngstock and ridden and performance working hunter classes for Irish Draughts, Traditional Irish Horses (TIHs), Thoroughbreds and Part-Bred Irish Draughts (min 25% ID). The Irish Draught Ridden class is a qualifier for the South East Ridden Irish Draught Championship, while this year’s show also includes a ridden and performance class for thoroughbreds. Laois Pony Club raffle

THE Laois Hunt Pony Club is currently undertaking a charity raffle in aid of Irish Cancer Society. Teenager killed in tragic accident

NEWS of the death of a teenager in a tragic riding accident has been met with shock and sadness. Isabelle O’Callaghan (17) is understood to have died in an accident while riding at her home just outside Killarney town on the main Tralee road at Rockfield on Thursday evening. Beloved daughter of Eamon and Deirdre and adored sister of James, Isabelle will be sadly missed by her heartbroken family, grandparents Sean, Monica and Jimmy, her aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing at O’Shea’s Funeral Home tomorrow, Sunday, June 29th from 7pm to 9pm. Funeral arriving at St Mary’s Cathedral on Monday morning at 11.45am for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
