LEADING show producer Ciara Mullen has to wait and see if she will be fit to return to the saddle ahead of the Dublin Horse Show early next month. Mullen suffered a freak accident during the launch of the 2025 Horse Show when she fell from a horse and ended up in hospital, but reports she got off lightly, all things considered, and is focusing on getting back to ‘normal’.

“Unfortunately it was just one of those things totally out of my control, a freak accident and a reminder you never know what’s around the corner. I’ve been really lucky to get away lightly in what could’ve been a much worse situation so for now I’m just focusing on lots of physio and getting back to normal,” Ciara told The Irish Field.

Asked if she would be back in the saddle to defend the titles she won in 2024, Ciara said: “I will be back when I’m given the go ahead which just depends on how I heal. In the meantime I’ve a fantastic partner in Lee Cosgrove and a brilliant friend in Lucy Cunningham and the reins are in safe hands with them. I look forward to the horse show whatever the outcome, it’s always the best week of the year!”

In the meantime, Ciara is active on her insightful Instagram page @itsa_groomslife where she is sharing helpful tips on rider turnout, the best products for grey and bay ponies, last minute stain tips and even a helpful guide to prepare for the Horse Show if it is your first time competing.
