Equitation school applications grow

APPLICATIONS for this year’s Army Equitation School Cadetship more than doubled to 100, the Minister for Defence, Helen McEntee, has revealed. She said the 2025 cadetship drew 42 applications, resulting in the induction of two candidates, and that increased to 100 applications in 2026, “reflecting the continuing growth in interest levels in a career in the Defence Forces”. Inductions arising from this competition are expected to take place by the end of this month. She added that 11 grooms were inducted in 2025 and two in 2026.

Don Walsh RIP

THE Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association paid tribute to Don Walsh from Bansha, Co Tipperary, following his passing on September 22nd. The tribute read: “Don was a familiar and valued member of the carriage driving community over very many years. His good humour and chat will be fondly remembered by the many friends he made throughout the sport. On behalf of the Chairman, committee and all members of NICDA, we extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the entire Walsh family, his wider family circle and friends at this difficult time.”
