THE jumping, dressage, and eventing Olympic qualification systems for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games have been officially published, following approval by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during their meeting from December 8th to 10th.
In jumping, there is a total of 75 quota places available. A total of 20 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will obtain team qualification; one as a host country place (USA), and 19 team quota places allocated through FEI Olympic Group qualification events. As in Tokyo and Paris, there will be three horse and rider combinations per team (across all disciplines) and 15 quota places left for individual athletes.
In Ireland’s case (Group A), the seven highest ranked teams from the 2026 FEI Jumping World Championships in Aachen next year, excluding the host country team, will qualify for LA. The three highest ranked teams from the 2027 FEI Jumping European Championship, Waregem (BEL) from FEI Olympic Groups A and/or B, excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway, will gain their place.
Only NOCs that have not accepted a team quota place are eligible to obtain individual quota places. Each athlete can obtain a maximum of one individual quota place for that athlete’s NOC. The ranking will be limited to the best 15 results per horse and rider combination in Olympic tanking competitions from January 1st to December 31st 2027.
Eventing
In the discipline of eventing, there are 65 quota places available. A total of 16 NOCs will obtain team qualification; one as a host country place, with 14 team quota places allocated through FEI Designated Olympic qualification events and one through the FEI Eventing Nations Cup 2027. Like in jumping, the seven highest ranked teams from the 2026 FEI Eventing World Championships in Aachen will gain their place, plus the two highest ranked teams from the 2027 European Eventing Championships in Avenches (SUI), excluding teams already qualified.
The same terms as in jumping apply for individual quota places – of which there are 17. For eventing, a nation can qualify for a maximum of two individual places.
There are 60 quota places for dressage. Fifteen NOCs will obtain team qualification, one as a host country place and 14 with team quota places allocated through FEI Olympic Group qualification events. Additionally, 15 individual quota places will be available. Each athlete can obtain a maximum of one individual quota place for that athlete’s NOC.
The Para Dressage qualification system will be published in 2026.
