THE Connemara Pony Sales return on Saturday and Sunday, September 19th and 20th, with an exciting September catalogue, combining Saturday’s special three-year-old loose jumping sale with a varied Sunday offering featuring some particularly interesting performance and breeding lines.

The opening day is dedicated to 24 qualified three-year-old loose jumpers, with a nicely-balanced selection of fillies and geldings, including 11 qualified fillies. Performance breeding features strongly, with Pumkins Pondi, Silver Shadow, Westside Mirah, Gwennic de Goariva, Templebready Fear Bui and Newtown Rebel appearing throughout the pedigrees.

Among the eye-catchers is Lot 321, Currabawn Maggie, by European championship performer Pumkins Pondi and from a family containing a number of successful competition ponies. Lot 320, Drimnagh Gunner, by Newtown Rebel, has already finished second in the loose jumping competition at Kildysart and third in the loose jumping final at Clifden.

The sale provides buyers with an opportunity to see an exciting selection of young Connemaras demonstrate their natural ability over a fence before entering the sales ring.

Strong pedigrees

Sunday brings a much broader catalogue, with particularly interesting dam lines and close relations to successful competition ponies, stallions and show winners appearing throughout.

An early highlight is Lot 12, Rathosey Annie, a 2019 mare by Ross Fear Bui. Already the dam of three foals and now broken and riding, she is a full-sister to FEI-registered Rathosey Mountain Mist, who competed for Sweden in Nations Cup competition and has jumped up to 1.30m.

Lot 13, Gurteen Snowdrop, by Tullaree Tomahawk, goes back to the foundation mare line that produced Gurteen Jennifer, Supreme in-hand champion at Clifden this year, while Lot 40, Pontoon Black Jack, is a half-brother to French Class 1 stallion Pontoon Ranger.

More established families feature in Lot 47, Ballynoonagh Bella, whose dam is a half-sister to Class 1 stallion Teach Mor Cormac, and Lot 49, Yankee, whose dam line is closely related to Class 1 stallion Glenville Glic and Dublin and Clifden competitors Clooniereen Maura and Glenville Gleoite.

Broodmares and youngstock

Breeders should find plenty of interest too. Lot 137, Sunshine Melody, by Lishmar Shadow, is a proven broodmare with nine offspring to date, all dun. One of those offspring is also catalogued on Sunday - Lot 139, Diamond’s Pacino, a 2024 dun colt by Silver Shadow.

Lot 156, Mochulla Scarlet Princess, could be another mare to watch. She is a full-sister to FEI-registered show jumpers Mochulla Blue and Tulla Boy and is offered with a foal at foot by Lishmar Shadow.

Among the yearlings, Lot 85, Ballynakillew Emperor, by Banks Timber, looks an interesting future showing prospect, while Lot 116, Sruthan Coil Duke Star Knight, by Manor Duke, is out of a full-sister to Class 1 stallion Bantrach Micheal.

For those looking for a smaller competition pony, Lot 170, Nadas Boy, should attract attention. The four-year-old 138cm gelding already has 13 SJI points and is competing at 90cm. He was the highest-placed Connemara and highest-placed 138cm pony at the 2026 Millstreet Young Irelander Loose Jumping Competition and has also qualified for the Maryville PLS 138cm Final.
