FOLLOWING months of uncertainty and frustration, Eventing Ireland (EI) has announced the return of the southern region events to the 2025 competition calendar.

The breakthrough came late last Saturday following extensive consultation around insurance clauses between the EI Board, it’s management committee and the Event Organisers Group.

In addition to restoring the original southern region dates, three new venues have been confirmed and are now published online on the Eventing Ireland calendar.

A statement from EI said: “This outcome follows a detailed and constructive process involving all stakeholders, focused on addressing key areas such as health and safety standards, insurance requirements, and the long-term financial viability of events. These enhancements will support a stronger, more sustainable calendar of competition going forward.”

The Southern Region will open its season with Hillcrest on Saturday, May 24th.

“We understand the frustration felt by members during the recent uncertainty and delays,” EI chairman Niki Potterton said.

“We are grateful for your patience and are now focused on delivering a full and exciting season for riders, owners, volunteers and supporters.”

Eventing Ireland also acknowledged the commitment and collaboration of the landowners and event organisers. “Their input has been central to the process,” the statement continued.

“They identified important areas for improvement, which we have now jointly addressed.

“We look forward to continuing our work together to enhance the standard and variety of eventing in Ireland.

“The organisation remains focused on open communication and shared progress. We acknowledge that some previous communications may have caused concern among certain event organisers.

“We regret any unintended misunderstanding and reaffirm EI’s commitment to respectful and constructive engagement with all stakeholders.”
