Midleton Show
PREPARATIONS are well underway for the 2026 Midleton Agricultural Show, which will be held at Ballindenisk on Sunday, May 24th. Entries, which can be made online through the Midleton Show website which is part of the Irish Shows Association SuperShow platform, close on Monday, May 18th at 12pm. Show jumper fined
NEIL Maguire, a show jumping trainer originally from Kildare and living in Northern Ireland, has been fined £760 and banned from driving for a year after he was caught drink driving and in possession of cocaine. The BMW he was driving initially caught the attention of police when it was flagged as having no MOT and insurance. When officers stopped Maguire, he smelled of alcohol and subsequently failed a breath test, and a small bag of cocaine was found in his wallet. He pled guilty to five charges at Antrim Magistrates Court, including possession of Class A drugs.
Fundraiser for Para Equestrian Ireland
PARA Equestrian Ireland (PEI) are running a fundraising golf classic at Shannon Golf Club on May 25th. PEI is a registered charity, which relies heavily on donations, sponsorship and fundraising to support riders with the costs of training, travel and competition. Entry for a team of four at the classic costs €400 and includes a meal, while tee box sponsorship is €100. For more information, contact Mary Flynn on 0876997134.
Connemara elections
THE Connemara Pony Breeders Society announced the results of their recent elections, with Cathal Gavaghan and Erin Fergus elected to the Council representing Ulster. Andy Donoghue, Sacha Maxwell and Patrick Costigan were successful in Munster, as were Sharon Walsh, Eammon Spain and Lorraine Loddick in Leinster. There were six seats available in Connaught, and they will now be filled by Kevin Bolger, Pat Collins, Claire Lacy Flynn, Ann Marie Conroy, Peter O’Malley and Gearoid Curran.
