FORMAL notice of an EGM was presented to the Connemara Pony Breeders Society council on Monday of last week. The meeting will take place at the Claregalway Hotel on Saturday, June 28th, at 8pm.
The notice was given by a group of society members via a solicitor’s letter to the CPBS council after it had previously refused to convene an EGM, claiming some signatures on a requisition for one were invalid. The requisition contained over 400 signatures.
The letter stated that “an extraordinary general meeting of the members of the Society has been convened pursuant to Article 25(ix) of the Society’s Constitution by more than 50% of those members of the Society who submitted a requisition for such a meeting to the Council of the Society on the 16th of April last. This meeting is to be held at The Clare Galway Hotel, Claregalway, Co Galway on Saturday the 28th day of June 2025 at 8pm.
“Despite your failure to comply with your legal obligations under Sections 178, 216 and 223 of the Companies Act, 2014, arrangements have been made for Notice of this extraordinary general meeting to be served on the members of the Society in accordance with the Society’s Constitution. The said EGM is validly convened in accordance with the Society’s Constitution and company law.
“It is noteworthy that you have repeatedly refused to allow members of the Society access to its register of members over the past three months.
“It is also noteworthy that, while you have asserted that the aforesaid requisition “contained multiple invalid signatures”, you have failed to identify the signatories concerned and we hereby formally call upon you to do so.”
The CPBS council said: “I can confirm that the requisition has been received and is under review. The Council has met and proposed a meeting with the representatives of those seeking the EGM.
“As yet, we have received no response. As this remains an ongoing matter, no further comment will be made at this time.”
