Jordan Coyle on the sidelines after leg break at Spruce Meadows

DERRY’s Jordan Coyle will spend three months on the sidelines after a fall at Spruce Meadows last Sunday from For Gold in the speed class. “I turned back into a fence in the jump-off, the horse slipped, my saddle slipped and I fell off and landed on my feet,” Coyle told The Irish Field. He broke his left tibia and requires surgery next week.

“I knew immediately something was wrong; I was praying it wasn’t serious. I tried to ride Chaccolino for the Grand Prix but I knew I couldn’t and wouldn’t do it to that horse.”

Coyle was scheduled for surgery on Thursday but was found to have blood clots in his leg and will now wait until next Wednesday instead. “The timeline is three months before you can do anything and realistically I will be hoping to be back riding and competing by December and ready for Florida.

“The most frustrating thing was missing that [$5 million] Grand Prix. The horse had jumped three Grands Prix at Spruce this summer and seven clear round, it was the plan all along so that was disappointing,” Coyle added.
