CORNET Obolensky is the newcomer amongst the leading sires trio in this year’s World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) sire rankings, released on Tuesday.
Reigning top sires Johnson TN (KWPN) and Diarado (HOLST) have each retained their leading dressage and eventing sire titles for a fourth consecutive year.
As for Cornet Obolensky (BWP), the Clinton grey has overtaken previous titleholders Kannan (KWPN) and Chacco-Blue (MECKL), ranked second and third for 2025.
This was the closest finish for the leading sire result in this year’s rankings with Cornet Obolensky (30,705 points) edging out Kannan (30,364).
WBFSH sire rankings are based on these collective points, earned in FEI competitions by each stallion’s recorded progeny.
The other top-three WBFSH stallions this year are second-placed Totilas (KWPN) and Quaterback (BRAND) in dressage, while in eventing, Diarado is followed by Jaguar Mail (SF) and OBOS Quality 004 (OLD).
OBOS Quality 004, ranked second in 2023 and 2024, is one of only two Irish-based stallions in this year’s WBFSH eventing top-10 sires, while Sligo Candy Boy (10th) makes his first appearance in the WBFSH top 10.
Brookfield Quality (ranked individual third) and Kokoleka (296th), bred by Sean Kelly and Noel Ruane respectively, are this year’s highest-ranked offspring of OBOS Quality and Sligo Candy Boy (ISH).
James Kann Cruz (ranked individual 44th) is his second-ranked sire Kannan’s second-best offspring. The Patrick Connolly-bred was headed off this year by Derby de Riverland (39th).
Hartsuijker (Johnson TN), JL Dublin (Diarado) and Millfield Colette (Cornet Obolensky) rated as the top points-earners for their respective sires.
