THE Ballyfoyle Agricultural Show, now in its 32nd year, will take place on June 28th, with a full programme of equestrian events expected to draw strong entries.

A comprehensive schedule of classes will be held across three show jumping arenas, culminating in the Grand Prix, where a substantial prize pot of €3,000 will again be on offer. The show will also host the opening round of the Grassroots League, an initiative introduced last year by the South Leinster SJI Committee. The league will run at the five grass SJI shows in the region and is aimed at encouraging novice pony riders to compete on a grass surface. Terrific prize money is on offer in the final at Dunamaggin Gymkhana in September. Entries can be made online through the SJI Live portal. An ever-popular feature of the day in Ballyfoyle are the Local Lead Rein classes, which are always a fantastic attraction.

In the showing field, a full programme will run across five rings, with large entries anticipated. A strong showing of top-quality hunters, Connemaras, mares and foals are expected to provide a high standard of competition. The show is delighted to once again host RDS qualifiers for the Ladies’ Side Saddle, Intermediate Side Saddle and Racehorse to Riding Horse classes. Similarly, the ISA In-Hand Qualifiers are also expected to draw a good crowd. The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the Supreme Championship with a prize fund of €1,000 up for grabs. Other attractions include the sheep competitions, with classes for pedigree Texel, Sufolk, Charollais and Valais Blacknose, along with factory and butcher classes. Entries can be made online through the show’s website. Canine lovers will be delighted to see the ever-popular dog show again this year, with entries taken on the day.

Visitors to the showgrounds will certainly not be disappointed, with a wide variety of craft and food stalls expected. Full details of the Lego, craft, horticultural and baking competitions for both adults and children are also available on the show’s website.

This autism-friendly show promises a fantastic family fun day out, with children’s amusements, a Senco Sensory Bus experience and live music, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy throughout the day.
