FRESH from his impressive win in the Flexible five-year-old show jumping final at the Gallagher Dublin Horse Show with GCS Ruby, Timmy Brennan has confirmed he is moving to Germany to join the Schockemöhle team, led by the world-renowned Paul Schockemöhle.

This talented young rider has had an incredible 12 months in the sport, winning the team silver medal at the young rider European Championships just last month, so his Dublin win was the icing on the cake.

“I thought it was brilliant to win at the Dublin Horse Show and do it with a home-bred as well was very special. She’s very talented, she’s very careful, she’s actually a sister to my brother Eoin’s world champion horse last year, Augustus Z, so she has a lot of potential. It was great to have all the family up there helping and supporting me, it was a great week.”

Speaking from Germany, where he takes up his place with Schockemöhle this weekend, the 20-year-old said he was looking forward to learning from the best.

“When I was in Hamburg for the Derby early on in the year, I was approached. Eoin McMahon had recommended me to the people in Schockemöhle and I went and met them later on in the year when I was over in Germany at a show and we went from there. It’s going to be a very good opportunity for me to get great training and learn plenty and learn from the best. I’m looking forward to starting there now this weekend. I can always come home whenever I want, but it’s always good to go away and learn to come back with a stronger mind. I’m not sure how long I’ll be there, if I’m getting good training and learning plenty and benefiting from it, that’s what’s really important for me, so we’ll just take each day as it comes.

“I hope to bring out my good mare Diadema Della Caccia when she is back (after the injury she picked up at the young rider Europeans), which should be in the next couple of weeks and then, if I have other horses I like for Lanaken, I’d like to bring them over too and do what my brother did last year.

“Diadema had a great year, so I’m focussed on bringing her back to her best and getting back to jumping Grands Prix. We know that she can do very well with those after we won five ranking classes, so if I can get her back to her best, then we’ll aim her at some of them again.”

Brennan’s list of achievements is long and includes a win last October in the CSI4* 1.55m GP in Morocco, which was his first attempt at this level. He also made his senior Nations Cup debut at the event. He made a spectacular debut at Geneva’s five-star show in December 2025, storming to two separate wins, including the 1.40m U25 Speed class. He was also U25 Winter Equestrian Festival Champion for the 25/26 season in Wellington, Florida.

“There have been loads of highlights and firsts this year, but I must say it was a great thrill to jump the Hamburg and Hickstead Derbys, I learned plenty from those and they’re things you’ll always remember. I’d love to do them again next year, if I still have my horse Coblue PS.”

And what of his German? “Shocking” was the reply, but given the determination of this young man, he will surely have that in order in no time.
