JACK Kent has been crowned Gain Star of the Month for July, after he claimed the individual gold medal at the FEI Jumping European Championships for Juniors in Hagen, Germany, riding Ollie Van De Klotputten. He adds it to the gold medal he brought home from the FEI Jumping European Championships for Ponies in The Netherlands in 2024 with Double Pleasure.

Dunnamaggin moved

THE annual Dunnamaggin Gymkhana, usually held on the grounds of the Costello family’s farm, will be held at Warrington Equestrian Centre on Sunday, September 6th, due to the current ground conditions. The Gymkhana is being run in aid of Cois Nore Cancer Care and St Joseph’s Home in Kilmoganny, and will feature the final of the Grassroots League. The organising committee is grateful to the Moloney family for the use of their wonderful facilities. Irish Breeders’ Classic postponed

THURSDAY’S classes at the Irish Breeders’ Classic in Barnadown were postponed due to heavy rainfall. Now in its 16th year, the Irish Breeders’ Classic boasts one of the richest prize funds globally among young horse show jumping competitions, and was set to run from Wednesday to Sunday, August 26th-30th. An adjusted schedule accounting for weather disruption is now available on the show’s social media channels and involves several classes running on Monday August 31st, including the feature 1.50m Plusvital Premier Grand Prix.

Looking forward to Royal Meath Show

THE 84th Royal Meath Show will take place in Porch Fields, Trim, next Sunday, September 6th. Featuring seven arenas with classes for riding horses, working hunters and even miniature ponies, the show will also offer a heritage craft display, artisan foods and trade stands.

The Royal Meath Show is offering a €600 championship in the Ladies’ Side Saddle section, a decent prize for a small show. Catalogue entries are now closed, while non-catalogue entries will close on Wednesday September 2nd. Matt Gordon RIP

THE sport horse world was saddened to hear of the passing of Matt Gordon on Monday, August 24th. From Crossmolina, Matt is sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, family Hannah, Jonathan and Jessica, his siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, neighbours, relatives and friends. He was laid to rest Crossmolina Cemetery on Wednesday.
