THE last young rider championship of the show was the 1.10m-1.15m with 20 combinations battling it out and nine booking their place against the clock. Taking this title was Edie Codd and Hdi Restless. This seven-year-old mare is owned by Hannah Wood and was bred by Kenneth Flynn. She is by Orestus and out of the Cruise On sired dam Arkle Heather.

“I was second last to go in the jump-off, and I knew I just had to go for it and do my best,” Codd said after the win. “I planned to take a stride out to the last and thankfully that paid off. My plan was to take as many tight lines as possible without being reckless. I have had the horse from a three-year-old so I knew he could do it. I would like to thank my mum Hannah for all her support and my trainer, Tom Byrne.”

Strong pace

First to go, Ciara Geaney and Cs Lux Chacco had a win in mind as they took the inside line to the double at four, this matched with a strong pace saw them set the time to beat, clear in 31.93.

Max Foley wasted no time with Illusion De Hus as he took an extremely tight line to the penultimate fence and a daring gallop saw him take the lead when clear in 31.42. Edie Codd entered the ring in a determined pace with Hdi Restless.

Codd got a good shot to the double and a daring gallop saw them clock the winning round of clear in 31.11 and in the process demoted Foley into second and Geaney into third. Tom Aita Tagle and Quinlan’s Hero put in a gallant attempt and a clear in 35.75 saw them take fourth place. Millie Jeffers was certainly on target with Brownstown Im So Fancy but four faults at the last in 30.20 meant she had to settle for fifth place. Emily Moloney faulted at the second fence with Mfe Class Diamante, but a fast time of 32.29 saw her take sixth.
