THERE were 13 starters in the Oulartleigh Equestrian pony class at Wexford Equestrian on Wednesday of which three were owned by Peadar Murphy whose son Kilian also rode one for owner/breeder Noelle Brett.

With two mounts to compete for the family’s Co Kilkenny stud while Tom O’Shea sat up on the other, Kilian put himself in line for the new pony young rider award when winning on his father’s Connemara stallion Cullintra Bonfire who has 45 Showjumping Ireland points.

Scoring highly on Wednesday without winning either phase for a completion score of 213 points, the six-year-old was bred close to his present abode by Patrick O’Keefe. He is by the German-bred Burning Daylight out of the Moy Johnny’s Pride mare Cool Wind and thus an own-brother to the Clive Swindell-owned 2011 show jumping mare Burning Wind.

Senior rider Dale Adams, who won the jumping phase with 164 points, finished in second place on her five-year-old Olympic Lux mare Cha Cha Cha (212.5). A poor jumping round, in which they picked up eight penalty points, proved the undoing of the dressage winners, Barry Higgins and Monaincha Belle.
