WHILE Kate Jarvey may have been disappointed that her Balham Houdini did not make the Olympic cut, she will have been delighted to see her five-year-old EI 90 winner Le Baton Rouge remain unbeaten from her two runs under rules.

A daughter of the Holstein sire Tampa (formerly Eurocommerce Tampa), Le Baton Rouge is the first and only sport horse foal out of the winning thoroughbred mare Rouge Etoile (Most Welcome).

“I decided to use the sire after I saw him jumping as a four-year-old in Germany, and he nicks very well with a certain sort of thoroughbred mare,” explained Jarvey. “The dam I purloined from my husband Frank! She was one of his National Hunt broodmares, but I always loved her and although she has passed on, this filly will become one of my future sport horse breeding mares.”
