FOLLOWING their four-star win at the Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Co Meath earlier this month, New Zealand’s Tim Price and the grey mare Ascona M claimed the CCI5*-L at Luhmühlen last weekend.
In doing so he insured the prestigious trophy stays in the Price household after his wife, Jonelle, won it 12 months ago.
Price was in second place after the dressage phase on a score of 25.8, just behind Japan’s Kazamu Tomoto and Brookpark Vikenti (25.2). When Tomoto retired during the cross-country phase, Price took over the lead having added just two time penalties.
He was chased by Britain’s Alexander Bragg in second place (29.7) and Sarah Bullimore in third (32.1). Bragg picked up four faults in the show jumping to drop to third place overall, with his compatriot Tom McEwen rising to second place with Figaro van het Broekxhof.
Price managed to clear all the fences and despite picking up 3.6 time penalties, held on to take victory on a final score of 31.4.
Carolow’s Sam Watson was best of the Irish with Vahe Bogossian’s Irish Sport Horse Tullabeg Flamenco in 12th place, just ahead of Tony Kennedy and the Con Kennedy-owned Irish Sport Horse Westeria Lane in 13th.
Watson was in 13th after dressage on a score of 32.50 and jumped clear cross-country adding just 9.6 time penalties. They lowered a single fence in the final phase to finish on a score of 46.10.
Kennedy was in 22nd after dressage (37.10), before a clear cross-country round with just six time penalties saw them climb to ninth place.
They also finished with one fence down in the tough show jumping phase to leave them on a final score of 47.90.
