Teuton returns with a bang

AMONG the underage riders who had been waiting for their 2021 campaign to start was Anya Teuton who was narrowly denied an EI100 double on her seasonal debut.

In spite of a pole down show jumping and the addition of 2.4 cross-country time penalties, she led the four-runner Pony section throughout on her mother Victoria’s Connemara mare Lisrua Star (31.7), an 11-year-old dun by Coral Misty’s Bobby with whom she enjoyed a very successful introduction to eventing last season.

In the 15-strong Junior division where she picked up 1.6 time penalties on the final leg, Teuton had to settle for second on Painted Cavalier (27.6) with the honours going to Lara McRobb who led throughout on her mother Kathryn’s Carrickaduff Dame whose total of 26.5 included two cross-country time penalties.

This traditionally-bred 13-year-old ISH gelding is by the Irish Draught stallion Dancing Boy out of the unraced Un Desperado mare Carrickaduff Forever. McRobb had been lying second after dressage with Courtyard Queen (25) but withdrew that Maddybenny winner when lowering one of the coloured poles.

Going double clear inside the time in Section A ensured a second EI90 win this season for Elaine O’Connor and the 12-year-old Cyrano gelding Sir Barnabus (30.8) while, on just his second EI start, the similarly-aged Doctor Pepper won Section B on his dressage score (27.8) under Conor Savage.

The EI90 (P) was also divided with Katie Flanagan claiming Section A on another 2009 gelding, Son Of Loki (36.3,) while Section B went to the Lauren Madine-ridden Connemara Moonshine Melody (29.5), a nine-year-old by I Love You Melody.
