THE eye-catching skewbald mare Wolf Bitz won the Oulartleigh Equestrian eventing pony section of the Stepping Stones to Success League at Wexford Equestrian under owner Kim O’Gorman but, on Wednesday, had to settle for second place behind the Wang Chung M2S gelding Chongqing M2S.

Ridden by the talented Jennifer Kuehnle for her father Hans, the six-year-old chesnut easily won both phases of the competition to complete on 205 points with O’Gorman’s seven-year-old Cavalier Two For Joy mare, who picked up 10 jumping penalties, recording a total of 187.5. Riding for Hans Kuehnle in the absence of Cathal Daniels, Sarah Ennis filled third place with Benaughlin Shikana (185).

Registered as an Irish Warmblood, Chongqing M2S was bred by Morningside Stud out of the Hornet Rose mare Bing Qing who was out of an Ekstein mare. He finished second in the league on 22 points, six ahead of his stable-companion, the seven-year-old Drumbad French Connection mare Tullibards Lucky Kate.

O’Gorman won the league on 28 points with Wolf Bitz who was bred in Co Louth by Sean Carter out of the Dock Leaf mare Moygrehan Daisy. The inaugural Oulartleigh Equestrian champion is due to make her Eventing Ireland debut tomorrow in the EI90 class at Rosanna.

Sponsor Sandra Borssim was at Wexford Equestrian on Wednesday, as were Sean Cooney of Botanica International and David Kane of Shires Equestrian Products.
