BALLYMENA’s Charlotte Dixon was lying third with her newcomer Irish Amigo (28.8) following the dressage phase of the EI90 but was left in the lead when both the David O’Connor-ridden House Elf (26.3) and the Victoria Clarke-partnered Carrick Diamond Connie (28.3) had a fence down show jumping.
Dixon, who was a second over the time on the final phase, was delighted to win on the tall five-year-old Irish Amigo, who is by the United Arab Emirates-bred thoroughbred stallion Waveney (a son of Green Desert). The bay was bred in Co Offaly by Joe Neville out of the Coolcorron Cool Diamond mare An Cat Rua.
Many young riders in the Northern Region bypassed Saturday’s event to represent their Branches and Area 17 at The Pony Club championships in England. Only five started in the EI90P class where there was a first Eventing Ireland success this season for Felcity McConnell who added four show jumping penalties to her winning dressage score (35.8) with Rickamore Sport. The seven-year-old Connemara gelding is by Portersize Just A Jiff’s sire Crosskeys Rebel out of Pamela Megahey’s Lobeen Larry mare Ocean Rossanna.
