KATIE O’Sullivan landed her second win of the day in a well-supported EI100 class of 35 runners. Posting a double clear round, and edging past her fellow Cooley rider and dressage leader Beth Burton in the show jumping, O’Sullivan partnered the former show jumper HHS Monte Carlo. The well related son of Heritage Fortunas was sourced from his breeder Marion Hughes just a few weeks ago, and enjoying the change of discipline, was placed second on his debut event appearance at Ballindenisk the previous weekend.

“He’s a beast!” Declared the rider of the six-year-old. “He just loves it. He’s brilliant and I may be pushing it because he’s so easy and will most likely be sold – but he’s one that I would love to keep to run on for the season!” The well-related grey is a half-sibling to several graded horses, including the British-based CCI3* event horse HHS Williamstown.

Also delivering a double clear, and chasing the winner from the off, was second-placed Heidi Hamilton with the Dutch-bred Johan-Some. A winner at Killossery recently, the five-year-old gelding boasts an immaculate record from his five runs under rules, and is by Lexicon (KWPN). They in turn, completed a fraction in front of Melanie Wrynn with Lightening Master. Five runners picked up varying penalties in the country, but all completed.

Hamilton went one better to take the spoils in the EI 90, this time riding the Byrne family’s home-bred mare World Of Orestus. While her passage to the top spot was eased when the top two after dressage walked home from the country, Hamilton could do no more than deliver a foot-perfect double clear round. It was a poignant and rewarding victory for the rider, as the winning mare, by Orestus is out of Tell The World, a half-sister to her former Le Lion D’Angers partner and subsequent four-star campaigner Cavaldi. “It is so exciting to ride something related to Cavaldi and it brings back so many memories,” she said. A big mare, who has been given time, World Of Orestus was broken in by James O’Haire and was placed third on her debut run at Rosanna earlier this season.

Cliona Ni Liathain and the 13-year-old West Mount Wind Chimes were also double clear to fill second, from Caroline Marwood and the veteran pony Jumping Joy.
