GLASLOUGH (3) took place last Saturday and it was disappointing that the entry was so low as the cross-country course at the Bellew family’s Cloncaw Equestrian had been very effectively changed around since the last day and, after a cool start, it turned into a lovely day. Also, those who attended got to drive through, and admire, Ireland’s tidiest village!
While most of the very friendly volunteers at this Co Monaghan venue are local, there is a lot of co-operation between the Northern and North Leinster Regions when it comes to officials with Stuart Stirling joining Elaine Lait (chief steward) and Gervaise Maher (assistant steward) as technical delegate.
WINTER MONTHS
Meadows Equestrian’s Jason Bridges looked after the show jumping ring while the NR’s Adam Stevenson designed the cross-country course. The last-named is looking forward to the start of the hunting season which, he hopes, will occupy his Saturdays over the winter months.
The final of Cloncaw’s Premier Saddlery two-phase league takes place tomorrow having had to be cancelled last month because of the huge number of fallen branches and other weather damage caused by the most recent storm.
Dawn Clerkin, who heads the Maxi league with The Sailors Girl, was one of those who competed last Saturday, finishing sixth in the EI100 Amateur class. A show jumping league and dressage shows are on the Centre’s calendar for the remainder of the year.
