LOCAL rider Lucca Stubington had mixed luck at EI100 level in Loughanmore last Saturday, claiming Section A on her winning dressage score with Xanthe Green (27.3) but, with show jumping penalties, finishing out of the placings on her other two rides.

The six-year-old Sir Shutterfly mare Xanthe Green is owned by the rider’s mother Georgia Stubington and grandmother Patricia Mackean who bred the bay mare out of Daisy M (by Arc Bright). This is the family of Juniper Green on whom Georgia won three Junior medals.

“Xanthe is going to Kilguilkey to do the EI100 national championship and will end his season competing in the EI110 at Grove,” said Lucca.

Trevor Smith filled the runner-up spot with the consistent Mike Of Mourne (30.3), while Lesley Webb will have been pleased with the third-place finish of newcomer Cairnview Redwood Guy (31.8).

There were 23 starters in that division as in Section B where the all-the-way winner was Coolmount Cruise (20.8) who was partnered for his usual amateur rider Jenny Nixon by David O’Connor. The seven-year-old grey gelding is by Cruise On Harley and was bred by Oinri Jackson out of the Vriend mare Brittas Vriend who evented in England for three seasons.

Robbie Collins was second on his much-admired Dunrath Reward (23.3) as the Cooley Team finished third with the Bethany Burton-partnered Esi By Design who lowered one of the coloured poles for a total of 28.3.

The EI90 was also divided and in Section A there was first time success for the new combination of Hollie Woods and Caprio who led from start to finish but did have a pole down show jumping for a total of 26.5. Previously ridden for Sandra Hamilton by Colin Halliday, who qualified with the chesnut for the five-year-old young event horse championship at Dublin, Caprio is by Capri van Overis Z out of the Tasset mare Chatsworth Tasset. He was bred in Co Kilkenny by John McDonald.

Gwen Scott was always second here on the five-year-old OBOS Quality 004 gelding Ballydavey Sundance (29.3) who had been eliminated on his debut the previous weekend at Ballyuvannon.

Having headed to Loughanmore with the aim of qualifying for next weekend’s national championships, Grace Kehoe did so in style in Section B where she followed up her Ballyvannon win with her father John’s Killeshin Fifty Shades Of Grey (35.5).

They had a fence down show jumping, Conor Savage completed on his dressage score in second with Miami Blue (35.8) while Victoria Clarke picked up eight show jumping penalties on the dressage winner, Supreme Rusticana (29.5) who was having her first EI start since the end of April.
