HAVING successfully competed through the Kildare Pony Club ranks, Emma Egan had two Eventing Ireland outings at the end of last season with Ballytoher Sabrina and, on their fifth start this year, the combination recorded their first registered success in the EI110 (J) at Rosanna last Sunday.
Egan and her mother Sara’s 13-year-old piebald mare completed on their dressage score (39) as did the third-placed Heather O’Connor on HSH Has It All (45.8).
Sandwiched between the pair was Noah Brown who had a fence down show jumping on Euro Jackpot (43.5).
All three combinations are entered at Tattersalls.
Carlow’s Jack Carr stepped up on his second-place finish at Crecora (2) to win the EI100 (J) on his father Gareth’s 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Bornio (31.5) when one of four riders to complete on their dressage score.
Kilian Murphy’s link-up with Carol Gee continues to pay dividends as the Kilkenny rider/owner combination landed the EI110 (P) class with the former European team pony Fernhill Mix And Match (36.1).
In spite of a pole down show jumping and a small number of time penalties in both jumping phases, Murphy and the 10-year-old piebald mare were comfortable winners over Ruth Burke and Atlantic Dreamer (49.5).
There were three eliminations in this class, one for a ‘horse’ fall at the first fence while two riders were unseated at fence 17, a hedge drop to an arrow skinny.
Having taken over the ride on the family’s Freddie towards the end of last season, Jill McKenna recorded her first EI success on the 14-year-old bay in Saturday’s EI100 (P) and that in spite of adding 1.6 cross-country time penalties to her dressage score (35.5). Grace O’Donoghue finished second with the only double clear on Garryndruig Prada (38.3).
This season’s new partnership of Island Pony Club member Ava Dowley and Margaret Bowe’s very experienced Robin Hood’s Gentle Cloud, an 18-year-old Connemara gelding by Robin Hood, made it two-for-two when winning the EI90 (P) with the only double clear.
