HAVING been the bridesmaid on her last two outings, Emily Barrett and BGS Mikado finally picked up a win in the EI110 J. Recording one of just two show jumping clear rounds, Barrett just held the advantage over top British junior Daisy Proctor (Carsonstown Athena) while dressage leaders Zara Burke Ott (Gooseberry Hill Cruise), who was demoted after the show jumping, completed in third.

Templemore’s Bryan Bourke has successfully teamed up with some of John Craig’s Kilrodan prefixed horses this season, and having filled fourth spot in the former class aboard Kilrodan Exchange, he went even better to win the EI100J with Kilrodan Queen B. An experienced campaigner, and formerly ridden by Bourke’s trainer Fergal Nesbitt as well as Cathal Daniels, the 11-year-old Queen B completed on her dressage score, as did second-placed Cliona Mitchell with Vigo Sunlight.

None of the three runners in the EI110 P managed to leave the show jumps intact, but scoring the best to win from the front were dressage leaders Ruth Burke and Atlantic Dreamer. Tom Hayden and Derryveeney Cruise, who have been knocking at the door all season, finally broke their duck in the EI100 P. Posting the sole sub 30 dressage mark, they added nothing further thus denying second-placed Godfrey Gibbons a hat-trick with Twilight Thunder.

Not for the first time during the day, it was the show jumping that proved influential in the EI90 P. Just two of the seven runners jumped clear, among which was the winning pair of Emily Brooks with Melview Another Clover. Marking her first win under rules, Brooks headed second-placed Kate Fahey who was also clear aboard I Can’t Believe It.
