CLYDA proved a lucky hunting ground for the Adams’ sisters, firstly when Hannah claimed back to back CNCJ* wins with the seven-year-old Milchem Ardeo. In this, her first season on horses, the former pony European squad member filled second place on the flat on the Melanie Wrynn-produced gelding, but was promoted after leaders Romy McCarthy and Miracle lowered two poles in the show jumping. The winner then progressed to record a double clear round (30.7), to beat Molly O’Neill and Clearistown Flavia (30.8) by the narrowest of margins. Romy McCarthy fared better with her second ride, Millridge Cara, to share this competition score (30.8) and fill third in the process. All eight runners completed without incident.

Capping a great day for the Kildare-based family, the CNCP2* the spoils went to Grace Adams and Myshall Rodge who, racking up their third CNCP2* win on the bounce, delivered the sole clear round within the time (36.3). Hampered by a show jumping error, dressage leaders Grace Tyrell and Fionas Fionn slipped to second (38.7), leaving Daniel Meagher (Monroe Lad) who added just 0.4 time penalties to his first phase score in third (39.2).

Another experienced campaigner to act as schoolmaster to a younger member of the family is the instantly recognisable EI100P winner and former championship medallist Millridge Buachaill Bui. Now partnered with great confidence by Alex Connors, the winner headed a remarkable class in which all nine runners produced double clear rounds. Completing on 29.0, the winning pair bettered Godfrey Gibbons on Twilight Thunder (31.0) and Annika O’Connor (Sorcher Babe) on 33.8.

April O’Neill is fast cementing her new partnership with John Glynn’s Shanaclough Einstein, as she landed the EI100J from the front. Despite tipping a rail in the show jumping, her competition score of 32.5 still bettered William Flood, who delivered the sole double clear with Lils Diamond (36.5). The show jumping proved troublesome for the remainder – all bar the well-placed Kate Lenihan who, having jumped a good clear round with new ride Kilcooley Michael, was unlucky to pick up 20 penalties in the country.

The result in the EI90P was also decided in the dressage arena, when Tom Hayden scored a very smart 27.0 with Derrveeny Cruise. The addition of four jumping penalties made little difference as the pair eventually led the clean jumping Easter Water (Zara Burk-Ott) who finished on 32.0.
