Bank Holiday Monday

ANITA Doherty, who was second in Saturday’s EI100 class with Powder Day, is facing into a busy weekend as, on Bank Holiday Monday, she is running the Beth’s Annual Charity Show Jumping Show at Portmore Equestrian Centre.

Beth is a teenager who suffers from the neurological condition Friedrich’s Ataxia. Over the last few years she has become wheelchair-bound and has undergone major spinal surgery. Funds raised will go towards her physiotherapy costs.

There will be two rings in operation, the indoor catering for those competing over cross poles up to 80cms, while action in the outdoor sand arena starts at 80cms and concludes with the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel two-fence challenge over a vertical and an oxer. Clears progress to the next round and the jumps go up – if you knock one down you can buy back in for a fiver.

Other sponsors confirmed at time of writing include Doagh Equestrian, Horse First, Bluegrass, Light Source, Dubarry Ireland, Clare-Maria Currie and JCB while Honeyhill Rosettes are providing rosettes for all prize-winners. Beth hopes to be at the show where, in addition to the usual on-site catering, her family will be selling home-baked goodies.
