Name check for Karen!

I’M not saying Karen’s not smart, because, of course, she is but it’s just that her surname isn’t Smart as I somehow stupidly typed when reporting on the opening session of the RDS national equestrian championships at Lambertstown last Tuesday week.

Based for the past few years in the North of Ireland, Karen Dixon was one of three judges for the Junior/Young Rider event horse championship and the young event horse championships at Lambertstown where she assessed the action in the Derby Arena.

As a senior rider, Dixon had 50 starts at the old four-star (now five-star) level, representing Britain at four Olympic Games, winning team silver at Seoul in 1988. She also competed at three World eventing championships winning team gold and individual bronze at The Hague in 1994 and team silver at Stockholm in 1990.

This weekend, Dixon will be in Millstreet, supporting her daughter Tara who competes in the Connolly’s Red Mills CCI3*-S on the Necarne EI115 winner Master Smart and in the Irish Sport Horse four-year-old national eventing discovery class on the Ringwood Cassero gelding, Smart One. Karen will be conducting clinics at Hazeldene EC and Lusks EC in September. For further details, check the Centres’ websites.
