CRAUGHWELL’s Grace Maxwell Murphy and her husband William McMahon secured two tickets for the Dublin Horse Show ridden Connemara classes at last Saturday’s penultimate qualifier, which was held at James O’Connor’s Forth Mountain Stud in Co Wexford.

Grace did so when fourth on Glencarrig Kingman in the four and five-year-old division, but William claimed the bragging rights on this occasion, as he won the six-year-old and upwards class for riders over 17 on Glencarrig Princess Ella. This 2017 Glencarrig Knight mare, who has many championship successes to her credit, both in-hand and ridden, was bred in Moycullen by Gearoid Curran out of Glencarrig Princess (by Glencarrig Prince).

Co Mayo’s Lucy Watson Ryan, who represents Alexandra College in schools’ show jumping, topped the final line-up in the six-year-old and upwards class for young riders with Beatrice Hughes’ Slievebloom Hilda. Previously produced by Charlotte and Gill Glynn, for whom she finished third at Dublin last August, this 10-year-old mare by Brock Lodge Buster was bred in Co Laois by Joseph Conroy out of Slieve Bloom Gail (by Castlestrange Fionn).

Chosen by Saturday’s judge Marian Condren as winner of the four and five-year-old class was the 2019 Barravalley Jack gelding Barravalley Bailey, who was ridden for Grainne Malone by her daughter Aisling. Bred by Noelle Brett Segrave, the dun is out of the Tulira Robuck mare Kilbrien Lass.

The first five ponies in all three classes are entitled to be entered at Dublin.
