IRISH riders have made it five wins out of five in the international classes when Cork’s Shane Sweetnam and Indra Van De Oude Heihoef won Thursday’s Stablelab Stakes.

Eleven combinations made it through to the jump-off, with the leaderboard once again dominated by the Irish. Sweetnam took the winner’s prize of €16,500 after clocking the fastest clear of 39.21 with the 10-year-old Indra, who is owned by The Blue Buckle Group. Co Louth’s Mark McAuley finished second with Jasco VD Bisschop (39.80), while Mayo’s Cameron Hanley took third with Eis Isaura (39.95).

Tipperary’s Shane Breen was the fastest of six clear rounds in Thursday’s Speed Derby, sponsored by the Clayton Hotel, to claim just over €8,000 with his speed merchant Can Ya Makan.

Six of the 21 starting riders managed to keep a clean sheet over the twisting and turning track and Breen broke the beam in 90.85 seconds, almost two seconds faster than fellow countryman Dermott Lennon aboard Vampire (0/ 82.44).

Britain’s Holly Smith prevented it from being an all-Irish top six when she partnered the Irish Sport Horse Quality Old Joker (O.B.O.S. Quality 004 x Slyguff Joker) to a clear in 83.88 seconds, ahead of Shane Sweetnam and Cyklon 1083 (0/ 84.34).
