WICKLOW-based Linda Murphy, who, along with Susan Fitzpatrick, featured in one of the many RDS videos in recent weeks, will be one of the busier riders at the Dublin 4 showgrounds next week.

She starts with a ride in the performance Irish Draughts section on the stallion Gortfree Lakeside Lad and has qualified two four-year-old geldings for Fitzpatrick in the young event horse classes. She will round off the first day of the show in the presentation stage of the small event horse class on last year’s winner, Rita Morgan’s Shirsheen Fun Size, a seven-year-old by Grand Plaisir who booked his ticket at Rincoola.

Two riders who have really worked out how to qualify for this final are Aideen Kirby and Sharon Power who both booked their tickets at Scarteen.

Kirby rides the home-bred seven-year-old Lancelot mare Derg Masterpiece, on whom she finished second last July, while Power takes the mount on her own Ars Vivendi mare SRS Mini Vendi with whom she was fourth 12 months ago.

This combination finished 11th of 23 in the CICYH1* for six-year-olds at Camphire last weekend when adding 6.4 cross-country time penalties to their dressage score.

The Ardeo Sports Horse team were in full voice here when Jodie Ronan won on Ardeo Dime two years ago and though Leila Barker and the Beach Ball gelding Ardeo Illusion failed to follow up last year, they have a second chance to get the party going next week.

Aisling McGreal, who has been competing in Millstreet this week, qualified locally at Rincoola with the Luidam mare Kilcoursey Gem, while also heading into Dublin is Davinia Gray who qualified her two mares, Balief Clover (by Boherdeal Clover) and Hacklim Moxie (by Puissance), at Forth Mountain.

Also bagging her ticket at that Co Wexford venue was the Diarmuid Ryan-ridden Precious One, Sarah Moore’s full-sister to her working hunter Shameless, while Ryan was at Tullylish seven days later when he qualified Jim Doyle’s Uskerty Sweet Lad mare Metalbridge Honey.
